Painted rocks and stones were used as money hence the word boya means money. If you had a good stone it could be used for trade or to purchase goods.

Language

There are 350 language groups in Australia and 630 dialects.

Nyungar have 15 language groups including 14 dialects. They are: Amangu, Yuat, Kalamaya, Ballardon, Wadjuk, Nyaki-Nyaki, Wiilman, Wardandi, Kaniyang, Goreng, Wudjari, Ngatjumay, Bibbulman, Minang & Mirning.

Each group is recognised by its language or dialect.


We conduct regular Cross Cultural Training & Cultural Awareness Workshops for a range of governmental and non-governmental organisations.

All workshops begin with a traditional Nyungar Welcome and Smoking Ceremony.

Issues specific to Aboriginal Groups in Western Australia are addressed, including:

  • History
  • Identity
  • Culture
  • Communication styles
  • Protocols for interaction
